Construction products present unique materials science challenges

Construction products present unique materials science challenges, as they must withstand sun, weather and human factors for decades, yet still be beautiful, lightweight and easy to install. We use our expertise in polymers, inorganic materials, optics, and physical chemistry to link material structure to building performance, aesthetics, durability, and occupant comfort.

Design

Design at CertainTeed is about developing systems

Design at CertainTeed is about developing systems and assemblies that address the needs of our diverse customers. We use state-of-the-art digital design, analysis, and prototyping technologies to commercialize high-value-added products in constant dialogue and collaboration with our internal and external customers. The result is differentiated products that are beautiful, high-performing, and fine-tuned to deliver performance that enables sustainable, efficient, and comfortable buildings.

Comfort

Architects and building owners realize that healthier and more comfortable building occupants are happier and more productive. As a result, many of today’s sustainable building designs take into consideration the issue of indoor environmental quality and comfort. At CertainTeed, we utilize unique tools, measurement methodologies, and visualization techniques to assess buildings and the indoor environment for acoustic, thermal, and visual comfort, as well as air quality, while capturing the occupant experience.

Building Science

CertainTeed Building Science

CertainTeed R&D Building Science studies aim at improving the thermal and acoustic performance of building envelopes, while ensuring the long term durability of assemblies by understanding and controlling heat and moisture flow at all scales through materials (insulation, gypsum, siding, shingles…), systems (walls, roofs…) and whole buildings.
