JOB DESCRIPTION:

 

We are currently seeking to fill a Design Engineer role in Northboro, Mass., which would report to the Design Group Leader within CertainTeed Platforms. This is an opportunity for an entrepreneurial designer/engineer to help develop truly innovative systems and assemblies with significant ecological, sensorial, and aesthetic impact on the built environment in both the US and globally. Further, the right candidate will be an active contributor and an enthusiastic learner in an intellectual environment comprising colleagues from diverse fields of design, science, and engineering.

 

As a Design Engineer, you will work closely with the team to assist in all aspects of the design process, including conceptualizing, digital modeling, prototyping, analysis (physical and simulation), presenting to customers and colleagues, researching manufacturing techniques, go-to-market implementation, and manufacturing support.

The responsibilities of the job include:

  • Carrying at least one major project through to successful completion with assistance from supervisor. Guidance on project objectives and technical approach are provided but semi-autonomous execution is expected.
  • Working on projects that are focused on design research and product/system design. Projects involve the extension of present or new technology in one or more areas, involving improvement and/or development of processes and testing techniques.
  • Completing projects which require creativity, intelligence, passion, drive and motivation, as well as exceptional communication, organization, design skills, and strategic thinking.
  • Working with other in collaboration on projects and utilizing strong project and time management skills, solid technical and problem solving skills to solve problems.
  • Guide, mentor and motivate an outstanding multidisciplinary team. Recommend a vision for the team consistent with center’s existing and future needs.

COMPETENCIES REQUIRED

Demonstrable superlative proficiency in the following areas:

  • Solidworks 3D and Drawings
  • Mechanical Analysis
  • FEA Simulation (Ansys)
  • Physical prototype production
  • Physical Testing (destructive, non-destructive, ergonomic, etc.)
  • Rapid Prototyping (esp. 3D Printing)
  • Must possess a body of technical work commensurate with their years of experience including but not limited to: demonstration of familiarity with statistical tools, data analysis, and drawing conclusions based on a collection of basic data and interpretation.
  • Project leadership including project management, team collaboration, and oral and written communication skills are required.
  • Demonstrated basic knowledge in Health, Safety, & Environmental procedures.
  • Incumbent demonstrates ability to work with colleagues at various levels.
  • Develop understanding of company policies and corporate structure.
  • Respectful communication and ability to collaborate in a team environment required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION:

  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.

  • Excellent design skills as demonstrated by a portfolio of academic and/or professional work
