Environmental, Health & Safety Engineer - Job Opening ID: 572232

EHS as one of the company’s core values. The objective of this role is to help with the development and implementation of EHS programs, policies, procedures and best practice techniques to reduce or eliminate risk to the organization.

 

The emphasis of this position is on the environmental side. The candidate would be responsible for regulatory and company environmental, health and safety compliance activity and facilitating the site Environmental Management System (EMS) in accordance with the ISO 14001 standard.

 

Included responsibilities are:

  • Air and water permit applications
  • Preparation of air pollution inventory and source registration documents
  • Tier II
  • Toxics Release Inventory
  • Biennial hazardous waste reports
  • Hazardous and universal waste management, and maintaining the Oil Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures (SPCC) Plan

 

The candidate would also:

  • Provide technical support to the site waste water operator as related to the industrial wastewater discharge system.
  • Contribute to hazard reviews to offer recommendations on chemical compatibility & substitution.
  • Interface with researchers and outside agencies concerning hazardous material processes or processing.
  • Assist lab representatives in creating waste stream profiles and reconciliation of their chemical inventories.
  • Create and audit environmental, health and safety (EHS) policies and practices for the site.
  •  Coordinate and / or conduct training for facility personnel as it concerns EHS matters.

 

COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

  • Excellent communication skills, oral and written.
  • Proven ability to manage and implement projects of a technical nature.
  • Ability to operate independently and as a team member or leader.
  • Demonstrated experience with preparation of environmental regulatory documents.
  • The selected candidate will preferably have experience in a research and development facility.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • BS Degree with a minimum of 3 years of experience or entry level Masters in environmental engineering, environmental chemistry or occupational health, safety and environmental science.
  • Knowledge and application experience within R&D and pilot scale operations along with hazardous waste profiling, training in environmental chemistry, and certification as a PE or HMM is a plus.
