R&D Manager, SEFPRO - Job Opening ID: 565471

The selected candidate will be joining the Glass Refractories R&D group based in SGR North America (USA) to support the technical leadership of SEFPRO (http://www.sefpro.com) in the glass industry. SEFPRO is the world leader in refractories for the glass industry; SEFPRO supplies fused cast, bonded and sintered refractories from a large network of 11 plants worldwide and serve all segments all the glass industry. In North America, SEFPRO is represented by its Corhart plant (Buckhannon, WV) for bonded and sintered refractories for the Display, Reinforcement, Insulation, and Specialty glass industries.

 

The R&D Manager for SEFPRO in SGR North America is expected to effectively lead the SEFPRO R&D team located in Northborough (MA) to support the growth of worldwide SEFPRO business by leading the development of new products and their successful introduction to the market, the initiation and management of new and existing Join Development programs with SEFPRO key customers, the development of our Services offer in NA, the development of new and improvement of existing ceramic processes for the account of our Buckhannon (WV) plant and SEFPRO NA business.

 

The R&D Manager defines R&D project portfolio for Display and Reinforcement Fiber glass market segments, as well as establish the priorities for all other missions of the team (Services offering, Process support). The R&D manager also leads the development of the Scientific depth both in material science applied to Refractory ceramics, and application science for the glass industry.

 

• Define and Implement the strategy of the R&D department in SGR NA and more specifically define and manages the entire R&D project portfolio in the Display and Reinforcement Fiber glass market segments; in particular, the incumbent monitors the competition landscape, market needs (from interaction with customers and market research report), organize refractory technology watch. The incumbent contributes to the R&D portfolio, by defining R&D orientations, identifying new product/process opportunities and organize corresponding project portfolio.

 

• Lead a group of engineers & technicians (administrative and technical supervision) and manage the R&D project portfolio; also direct the team to produce project milestones and plans, and reviews the work performed by the team, tracks the progress vs objectives, ensures the relevance and quality of the technical approach, and offers coaching or training as needed. Incumbent also provides timeline/plans and cost estimates, research reports and presentations.

 

• Collaborate with different engineers, technicians, business managers, plant managers, marketing managers, local manufacturing towards the aim of growing the sales and profitability of the SEFPRO business, which may include providing support on technical aspect and provide guidance on new products/processes released. This would include establishing project priorities and facilitating product development. Include defining the associated tasks and milestones for research, proposes the technical approach, cost estimates, and timeline.

 

• Provides and Organizes the technical support to our plant(s) and build Process expertise in SGR NA and in the plant to support these projects; in particular incumbent makes sure that the R&D teams (SGR NA and Buckhannon) supports on both short term problem solving problems and more long term projects/objectives for the development of scientific competencies needed to sustain and improve our quality and yields.

 

• Play an important role in the management of the relationships with key customers which includes interaction in the field with customers and potential customers to provide/organize technical support. This includes the management of large Join development projects with key customers with the role of JDA program leader/director. Finally, the incumbent is responsible for organizing/coordinating the Technical Service offering for SEFPRO in NA.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

 

• BS Degree with 18+, Masters with 13+ or PhD with 9+ years of experience Ceramic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics or Chemistry.

• Leading and managing a team of intercultural professional level staff, including mentoring and developing team members 6 plus years’ experience.

• Strong Project Leader/Management experience in CPA stage gate style with own international Project Manager experience 6 plus years’ experience.

• Must possess a body of technical work commensurate with their years of experience including but not limited to: demonstration of familiarity with statistical tools, data analysis, and drawing conclusions based on a collection of basic data and interpretation, IP, Patents, and technical documents.

• Demonstrated ability to lead projects within a structured process (Gate).

• Demonstrated ability to give and receive constructive feedback.

• Demonstrate ability to network within and out of group.

• Respectful communication and ability to collaborate in a team environment required.
