Research Assistant– CertainTeed Platform- Job Opening ID: 553731

As a Research Assistant you become part of a dynamic and respectful team, working on innovative building materials and products.

In this role, you safely perform specialized R&D assignments involving testing, analyzing, improving, installing, operating, and/or solving problems concerning our processes, equipment, and products. This means you: 

  • Support engineers and scientists in R&D team with their projects. 
  • Execute and/or support commercial and manufacturing support requests. 
  • Manage and document projects and tasks effectively with supervision. 
  • Play a role in lab management: safety aspects, equipment maintenance, 5S, lab audit preparation and action follow-up, lab postings, regular equipment checks etc. 
  • Demonstrate an open and collaborative approach in all areas of responsibility. 
  • Conduct hands-on experimental work. 
  • Order and inventory materials in order to maintain supplies.

Your main responsibilities would be to: 

  • Prepare/process materials samples including:

   - Active involvement in standard and exploratory experiment design o Routine laboratory activity to make or prep materials and test samples.

   - Development work with non-routine R&D assignments such as design of fixtures for experimental set-up and establishing proper data acquisition.

   - Collect and report scientific & engineering data obtained from laboratory equipment through an effective plan/coordination and maintains laboratory notebook. 

  • Maintain laboratories and equipment including set-up and operation of experimental equipment or instruments. 
  • Other duties within the department as assigned.


  • High School diploma or GED (demonstrated equivalent).
  • Capability to use personal computer and Microsoft Office applications, such as Excel and Word. 
  • Ability to work in a plant environment as needed to scale up products or processes. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skill to communicate in a clear, effective, and respectful way to all levels in the organization. 
  • Willingness and ability to work in a collaborative R&D environment with a diverse project team in an open and collaborative mode 
  • Demonstrated hands-on experimental work history.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of health and safety operations.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Shown commitment to create a grassroots proactive culture of safety by encouraging, empowering, and involving all staff in safety. 
  • Experience with basic troubleshooting for maintenance of equipment is a plus.
  • Travel amount <5% 
  • Lifting requirement: 25-30 lbs
