Research Engineer CRL – Processing Technology - Job Opening ID: 552764

Saint-Gobain Northboro R&D Center (NRDC) is looking for a talented entry-level Research Engineer to join the Coatings team within the Processing Technology group.

The Coatings team works closely with Saint Gobain’s various businesses units to solve problems, develop new products, and improve production processes. You will be expected to design and execute experiments, analyze results, and present the findings in both written and oral formats. Under the direction of the group leader, you will formulate coatings, produce lab scale samples, operate pilot scale coating equipment, and analyze the experimental outcomes. In addition to designing experiments for the candidate’s primary projects, the candidate will be expected to conduct experiments to support projects led by others.
You will do this by: 

  • Carrying at least one major project through to successful completion with assistance from supervisor.  Guidance on project objectives and technical approach are provided but semi-autonomous execution is expected.  Projects involve the extension of present or new technology in one or more areas, involving improvement and/or development of products, processes, techniques, and fundamental knowledge. 
  • Fabricating coating prototypes and characterizing samples using various analytical techniques based on experiments designed by other engineers in the group in support of their projects.  
  • Delivering high quality results rapidly and in the format requested by the project manager.    
  • Maintaining the wet coatings team R&D coating line and conducting R&D trials on the line in support of various businesses led or Competency Research Lab led projects.  
  • Proactively seeking out all informations needed to conduct the trials successfully and delivers the results in the form requested by the project manager.

  • Knowledge of chemical engineering, organic chemistry, and/or polymer materials. 
  • Ability to work independently on several projects simultaneously.
  • This individual will be expected to run their own experiments or guide technicians to run experiments to further technology understanding, develop product prototypes, and support pilot scale processes and ensure correlation of lab and pilot processes into manufacturing processes.  
