This position is looking for driven, talented, and energetic entry level researchers to join our current team in conducting hands-on development laboratory work for key development projects related to filtration membranes. Projects will focus on process and product development activities related to Saint-Gobain’s extensive filtration product line. As a Research Engineer, the candidate will research and develop new technologies to improve processes and products within Saint-Gobain’s filtration business. Phases of technical development include lab-scale process development, pilot, scale-up, and implementation of R&D processes into manufacturing. The candidate will take project objectives and transform them in to actionable tasks including research of technologies, design and execution of experimentation, analysis of results, and generation of IP and technical reports.

  • Learn and master cutting-edge membrane technologies in hands-on fashion.
  • Work closely with team members and stakeholders to develop technical solutions on filtration membranes.
  • Perform hands-on laboratory experimentation and equipment operations.
  • Maintain an efficient and well-organized workspace in the lab.
  • Analyze data and present results in written and oral form.
  • Plan and prepare samples for engineering and application tests.
  • Create a grassroots proactive culture of safety (physical) by encouraging, empowering, and involving all staff in safety.


This position will have a focus on research and development in all aspects of the team’s technical area, thereby developing new process/product and building technical depth in multiple areas. Under the direction of the supervisor, the candidate will also design, run experiments, produce lab scale samples, develop and operate pilot equipment, and analyze the experimental outcomes. In addition to designing experiments for the candidate’s primary projects, the candidate will be expected to conduct experiments and support the projects led by others.

This will be done by:

  • Strong knowledge on polymer (e.g. polymer chemistry, formulation, characterization) and polymer process (coating, mixing, molding, compounding, extrusion, composites, etc.).
  • Established experience on surface science (e.g. surface modification, characterization, etc.) and familiar with surface modification tools (e.g. plasma, UV, e-beam, etc.).
  • Knowledge on polymeric filtration membranes and filters, and related manufacturing process, validation and applications.
  • Self-starter with the ability to take initiative and accomplish tasks.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, organize and manage tasks.
  • Entrepreneur mindset and flexibility to changes and emerging topics.
  • Ability to work in a multicultural environment on tight deadlines and high visibility projects.
  • Strong communication (oral & written) skills and details oriented.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, especially PowerPoint, Excel and Word.


  • MS or BS with 2-3 years of industrial work experience in a related field. Majored in Science (e.g. Chemistry, Biochemistry) or Engineering (e.g. Chemical, Polymer, Plastics, Materials Science).
  • Industrial background on filtration membranes and related applications are preferable.
  • Experience on biology, biopharma and proteins are a plus.
