Senior Research Engineer, Composite Tape Solutions - Job Opening ID 551016

JOB DESCRIPTION:

 

The PPL Composite Tape Solutions Division is seeking a Senior Research Engineer at the Northboro research and development center. The selected candidate will have a sound technical knowledge of adhesion science, polymer materials, rheology, processes, and products. The candidate will contribute to build fundamental understanding in adhesion science in Tapes Solutions business, to develop new technologies and products in a team approach working closely with colleagues in both Northboro site and manufacturing sites. This candidate will also contribute to build application knowledge and to develop test method and process.

 

The candidate will be expected to lead R&D projects in the areas of applications technology and process measurement, collaborate effectively with R&D colleagues, product managers, product engineers, application engineers and external customers, create and execute project plans, design and conduct experiments, analyze data, and present findings in written and oral formats. In addition to the candidate’s primary projects, the candidate will be expected to support projects led by others. The Senior Research Engineer must possess sound technical knowledge or polymer materials, adhesives, processes, and products. Contributions will be to product development efforts in a team environment working closely with other engineers and technicians both in-person and remotely. Responsibilities are also related to application test development and process development.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • The technical assistance required on only the more difficult problems.
  • Continuously and reliably carries projects through to completion with little assistance from supervisor.
  • Keeps project teams on track with project timeline and budget.
  • Major problems and approval for major expenditures are referred to supervisor
  • Understands Gate Process methodology/ideology and utilizes and incorporates it in research projects.
  • Be able to fill in standard deliverables for project management through interactions with internal contacts outside of R&D
  • Able to travel 25-40% of time

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION:

  • BS Degree with a minimum of 7+ years’ experience, or MS with 3+ years of experience, or entry level PhD in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering
  • Soft Matter Physics (rheology); Polymer/adhesive experience is preferred; working experience is preferred including internships or co-ops
