Senior Research Engineer - CRL - Job Opening ID: 567820

The Material Technology Group works closely with Saint Gobain’s various business units to solve problems, develop new materials and products, and improve manufacturing processes to support the development of innovative products as required by our High Performance Solutions and Building Materials Divisions.


The candidate will be expected to manage R&D projects in the areas of surface sciences with a specific focus on the stabilization of different formulation using different surfactants and additives to allow stable wet-coating processes, as well as a focus on the surface modification using different plasma systems to introduce proper characteristics at the surfaces of different substrates. The candidate will spend most of his/her time at designing experiments, performing laboratory work, analyzing/present data in written and oral format, and closely work with the rest of the team in the field of Polymeric Materials Development. The candidate will give direction to junior engineers, technicians and other participants during experiments at the lab, pilot, & large industrial scales.

  • Carries out role as primary project investigator for 2-3 projects.
  • Recommend innovative project initiatives consistent with customer needs.
  • Develop the surface science competencies in line with Saint-Gobain businesses.

  • BS Degree with a minimum of 7+ years’ experience, or MS with 3+ years of experience, or entry level PhD in Material Science, Chemistry, Physics, Chemical Engineering or other related disciplines.
  • Experience with formulation and dispersion, and surface modification via plasma treatment is required.
  • Industrial Internship or R&D experience with formulation/dispersion and plasma treatment is preferred.
  • Experience with coating processes is a plus.
  • Experience with process automation and/or control is a plus.
