Senior Research Engineer Robotics - Job Opening ID: 546178


Saint-Gobain Research and Development is looking to expand its robotics and automation competency through developing robotic systems for applications in R&D and manufacturing. In addition, new robotic technologies, which could benefit SG businesses and products, will be identified and explored. To identify suitable applications for automation, the Senior Research Engineer will interact with R&D and manufacturing personnel and visit plants. You will then assist our business partners through either providing technical and practical recommendations, or taking the lead on developing the robotic systems internally or through collaboration with external parties (e.g. manufacturers, integrators, universities).

You will document the results in the form of written technical memos, and will present them to internal customer and management. Effective, proactive communication with customers is critical, including the ability to present technical results and recommendations in a clear and concise manner to a wide range of technical and non-technical audiences. The successful candidate will have the ability to work comfortably and flexibly in a diverse and fast moving environment. Championing efforts to drive HSE initiatives and consciousness in the organization are critical. 


  • Knowledge and experience with robotic programming (e.g. ROS), end effector design and selection (e.g. electrical and vacuum grippers), accessories selection and development (e.g. vision systems, feeders, sensors, etc.), fixture design and manufacturing, and CAD software (e.g. SolidWorks)
  • Experience of working with or as a robotic integrator, with proven record of delivering industrial robotic cell and systems in a timely manner
  • Sound technical knowledge of materials, processes, techniques and products to improve on or develop products, increase performance, or reduce costs, in order to maximize production and/or to support fundamental research
  • Understanding of technologies and advancements in current scope of work
  • Project management skills to preform and document projects effectively without supervision by a technical leader
  • Demonstrates knowledge of health, safety and environment procedures   
  • Seeks out others to enhance and streamline development and decision making
  • Ability to communicate technically with internal competencies and university collaborators and utilize knowledge to advance projects and identify productive synergies


  • BS Degree with a minimum of 7+ years of experience or MS with 3+ years of experience in Robotics/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering (or related fields).
  • Project leadership including project management, team collaboration, and oral and written communication skills are required.
  • Must possess a body of technical work commensurate with their years of experience
