We are currently seeking a Senior Research Engineer to join the Tape Solutions R&D group. The successful candidate will use their technical, scientific and soft skills to be an active contributor, an enthusiastic learner and a support for change in an intellectual environment comprising colleagues from diverse fields of design, science, and engineering.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

 

The incumbent will be responsible for producing high value outputs in the following key result areas:

  • Interact with Sales & Marketing /Product Management/Customers to develop the requirements of new products/projects as well as identify new or improved technologies to meet business demands for the Tape Solutions SBU.
  • Effectively lead new product development projects and perform as technical reference for worldwide teams for these projects. Coordinate project activities worldwide for assigned topics. Includes work with internal and external collaborators to result in new solutions for the Tape Solutions SBU. Determine potential for intellectual property.
  • Plan, conduct and interpret laboratory and pilot experiments in partnership with R&D and SBU personnel. Experimental design and statistical techniques will be used. Products will be bench-marked against leading competitive products.
  • Manufacture trial products in Tape Solutions manufacturing environments. Scale-up and troubleshoot newly developed products/processes.
  • Support the field testing of experimental products. The candidate will define field test parameters, provide training, gather data, and interpret and report results.
  • Interact with product managers and manufacturing engineers to transfer new products and provide technical support for transferring and monitoring new product in manufacturing. Presentations will be made at every level of our matrix organization.
  • Assist in the launch of new products and technologies on a worldwide basis.
  • Ability to travel 10-35%

COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

  • Leadership: Lead one or more large SBU projects. Individual must become the technical lead for this project and influence activities at both NRDC and remote sites.
  • Communication: Effectively communicate with SBU teams across the globe including R&D, Product Management, Manufacturing, and Management personnel. External communications include work with vendors, customers, and university collaborators.
  • Problem Solving: Demonstrate problem solving skills through examples derived from previous roles, educational experience, and/or research programs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION:

  • BS Degree with a minimum of 7+ years’ experience, or MS with 3+ years of experience, or entry level PhD in Polymer Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Science or a related field.
  • Must have knowledge and practical experience with mechanical, chemical and thermal characterization of polymer based adhesives and adhesive constructions. Ability to interpret test results is necessary.
  • Previous experience focused on New Product Development from concept development to launch is preferred.
  • Previous experience conducting work in industrial environment to manufacture or evaluate products is preferred.
