Senior Research Engineer - Thin Wheels Abrasives - Job Opening ID: 557532

You will lead R&D projects in the areas of product development, abrasive technology research and process development. JOB DESCRIPTION:

In this role, you will be responsible for producing high value outputs in the following key result areas:

1. You will create and execute project plans and keep project teams on track with project timeline and budget. You manage multiple projects simultaneously, on time, well documented and within budget to meet business and customer objectives.  You play a role in proposing projects and programs vital to the R&D direction of the group.  In addition to your primary projects, you’ll support projects lead by others. Demonstrates open and collaborative approach in all areas of responsibility.  Seeks out others to enhance and streamline development and decision making.

2. Extensively utilize research and/or project experiences and broad expertise of materials, processes and products to improve on or develop new products with increased performance, or reduced costs, in order to maximize production and/or to support fundamental research.

3. You stay aware of new technology applications and competitive uses of same in work with materials, products and processes, and in development of new knowledge.  

4. Interact with R&D and Business Managers/Sales/Product Management/Customers to develop the requirements of new products/projects as well as identify new or improved technologies to meet business demands.

5. Plan, conduct and interpret analytical, laboratory and grinding experiments in partnership with our researchers. Scope of project work includes both product development and fundamental research regarding performance mechanisms and improvements to same. Experimental design and statistical techniques will be used. Grinding simulation tests will be developed to better predict the performance of experimental products in the field. Products will be bench-marked against leading competitive products.

6. Support the field testing of experimental products. The candidate will define field test parameters, provide training, gather data, and interpret and report results in written and oral presentations.

7. Interact with product managers and manufacturing engineers to transfer new products and provide technical support for transferring and monitoring new product in manufacturing. 8. Assist in the launch of new products and technologies on a worldwide basis.
 
REQUIREMENTS:  

  • Skills associated with a Ph.D., or a Master's degree with 3 years of experience, or a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 7+ years of experience, in materials or chemical engineering, polymer technology, or material science, with significant experience in formulating, processing and characterizing organic-based composites.  
  • Knowledge of and experience with formulating, thermal characterization, and mechanical characterization of composites is highly useful.  
  • Knowledge and practical experience related to abrasives and/or grinding are beneficial. 
  • Ability to design and interpret experiments, proven analytical and statistical skills, drawing conclusions based on a collection of basic data and past interpretation, Intellectual Property, and technical documentation. 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; must be able to work well within a team as well as serve as a project leader; Be able to work effectively with different cultures and business climates and across reporting relationships, geographies and functions. Demonstrate open and collaborative approach in all areas of responsibility. Effective communication and networking is key to be successful in this role. 
  • Demonstrate an ability to accelerate research activities to meet the aggressive demands of a fast paced research environment.  
  • Demonstrated ability project management.

  • Ability to document/communicate/present results, at every level of our matrix organization, in a manner consistent with company intellectual property procedures to meet business and customer objectives. 
